Our 12 volt Knife Sharpener was
developed for use in produce harvesting where a cutter may be making 12

It
would be equally useful in any field application where manual
sharpening is time consuming. A cigarette lighter plug and a 16
ft. cord allow it to be placed on the tailgate of a truck or other
convenient location. When used horizontally the belt moves away
from the user
for safety for added safety, and the low speed reduces the chance of
burning an
edge. The sharpener has a straight section for flat
bevels and a slack belt section for convex bevels. Belts are easily
changed in seconds, and
are available in grits from 120 to 1200.
Produce cutters like their knives very thin and sharpened to a 15
degree
single bevel (chisel grind). The initial preparation of a new
knife, taking off the original double bevel, thinning the blade and
sharpening, takes about an hour to do manually. With this
sharpener it
can be done in under 5 minutes. Sharpenings throughout the day
take just seconds.
